Good afternoon,
” Lifted by unseen hands ” from Haiku 2021
” The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
John 3:8
For this week’s devotionals I will continue to reflect on my new haiku for 2021.
So much of life is lived backwards. Life makes sense only later in life. I believe in miracles. I believe in a God who interacts with creation. God did not just create the universe, and
then let it ride. So, the haiku says the “unseen Hands”. For me it implies God. What does it mean to you ? I almost never see God’s hands in the moment. It is only after a few days, or years, or a lifetime, where I can say ” aha”, it was God !
I believe God is compassionate. So, God is about lifting us up. God cares for us. Often God’s compassion and care shows up when we display these attributes of God to others. During COVID, we must care for others. It is at this point that we become God in the flesh. In the John passage, it is part of the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus, that Jesus offers that the work of God is mysterious. The winds of God blow wherever it wants. We need to perceive the “wind” of God in our lives. We are Spirit-born people.
When have been the times in your life, that you have seen God appear ? In 2020, did you see God more often, or less often ? How can we, as a congregation, lift up God and each other ?
Prayer
God, we invite you to show up.
We would like to see you
So, we can proclaim,
testify,
talk about
your work in this world.
Come Lord Jesus
Come quickly.
AMEN.
