( Conservative MP John Nater won in Perth. You can now write to him about First Nations water problems and Guaranteed basic income. )
” Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.” Mark 10:33-34
Jesus is talking about himself. The disciples know but they do not want to believe it. We know we are going to die, but we do not think about it or do not want it to happen. Jesus and his friends are very human here. Jesus says the Son of Man is going to die. That is passive aggressive language. Maybe Jesus does not want to address his pain and suffering head on, either. After all, he was as human as his disciples.
Jesus and his friends are travelling to Jerusalem. In Mark’s account of Jesus’ life, the story is headed to the city of peace. It seems that Jesus is arriving in Jerusalem for the first time. Everything is leading up to this confrontation in the holy city. If you were a disciple, would you have fled from Jesus ? None of us want to suffer and die ? We want to live as long as we can, and die with no pain.
Prayer Thank you for Mark’s story
thank you for the disciples.
Thank you for Jesus’ journey .
Help us in our trek of our life
Aid us in all of or decisions.
Guide us to holiness, even if we have to suffer. AMEN.
