In our Zoom Bible study we have been reading the prophet Habakkuk. We have one more session. One of my favourite couple of verses in the Bible is at the end of chapter 3:
Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights. Habakkuk 3:17-19
This from an agricultural society. It is about a farmer. It has not been a good year. The evil empire, the Babylonians have been taking over lands, and are coming closer to Jerusalem and the people of God. The Babylonians will destroy everything, and take the people, and farmers, and force them to Baghdad. The farmer is anticipating that he will continue to believe in God, when all the barns are empty . The time is approaching for the destruction ( the Temple of Israel was destroyed by the Bablonians in 586 BC ).
A Habakkuk Prayer for Today
Even though cancer has not been cured, and… The Russians are still bombing the Ukraine, and … The Earth is still heating up, and… Gun violence is not slowing down, and … There is still racism in Canada against people of colour and the Indigenous , and … There are still thousands nuclear weapons in the possession of warring counties…and
Yet I will rejoice and believe in God. AMEN
How would you pray like Habbakuk ?
