After all, it is 2022

April 25, 2022

Good afternoon
“It is 2022 , we are better than this.
This should not be happening.
After all, it is 2022.
C’mon it is 2022.”    ——things I have heard this year.

The logical reasoning seems to be that because it is ” today” , we are to be better. The longer time goes forward , the society we live in will get better. Or at least in a fairy tale world this is the way it happens.
But, evil is still in the world. CEOs earn hundreds of millions but the workers beg for $ 16.00 an hour. People working in poverty own three homes, while over a thousand people are homeless in Waterloo Region. My pension plan dwarfs most of the world. And Russia bombs my ancestral areas of Ukraine to smithereens, killing civilians. But we have always killed civilians in war. And Canada is sending more weapons. And the US is sending billions worth of weapons, but they cannot account for them. Where have they gone? What are the evils that you think should be destroyed non-violently?

Just because we are in the year two thousand and twenty-two, does not automatically say that we are going to be more moral. We do not do the right things just because we are living in a new year. We must be transformed, born again, or be upside or whatever you want to call it. We need/have to be a different kind of people in our world.

Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”  Job 1:8
Then everything evil comes to Job and his family.

The whole book is a back and forth of the nature of evil, and why it happens. We should try to make the world, and all its people and things better. Our callings as followers of Jesus Christ must be implemented every day. Just saying, ” It is 2022.” is not going to make the world better.

Grace and peace in our life and faith
