Climate Change

August 9, 2021
Good afternoon, ” God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.  And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.”  Genesis 1:16-19

This sounds like the sun and moon. This is from the creation story. Not everything in our world is included in this story. We get vegetation, light, animals and both male and female, among other things on those six days. The writer of the story was not there. God must have told him what happened or the writer has a sense that it happened in this way. The words are amazing both in English and Hebrew ).

The United Nations came out today with its most recent findings on climate change ( Red Alert on Humanity ). I know that we do not all agree on this subject. What information do you need to think about it ? Do you trust the United Nations ? In Southern Ontario we have not really been affected. We have had a few more storms/flooding, but it might be only a cycle. It is hot today, but Waterloo Region’s temperature was the lowest in six years in July.

I believe we are experiencing climate change . In Genesis it says that we are to be good stewards of the world. All of it. I drive to and from Poole at least 4 times a week. That is over 240 kms a week . Is this being responsible for my carbon footprint ? What do you think ?

Do you think that we could have a healthy discussion on this subject, arguing well and listening to the variety of opinions that are in the church. We can agree that we want the land to produce food. We can agree that we do not want hotter days or colder winters. We do not want more pollution in the air.  We do not want more fights/wars over water.

Guide us , O Lord,
So that, we might continue to take good care of your creation

Trust, silent enters my fears
