This fear is part of the birth stories. It is a strange story of dreams, pregnancies, shepherds and the Wise People from the East. All of it is unbelievable. The birth story is told by two different authors in two different ways. Check them out in Matthew and Luke
When angels show up in the biblical story, the immediate emotion is fear. It is not comfortable. It is not happiness. It is not passive emotion. It is focused fear. Is the angel going to hurt me ? What did I do wrong ? Oh no !!!!! In most situations, the angel tries to reassure the person being visited that everything will be okay. Gabriel, Michael, and other heavenly beings come bringing good news. Not easy news though.Why is the fear the initial reaction to the heavenly messenger of God ?
If an angel shows up in the second half of Lent 2021, what do you want ? Invite God to show up in your dreams in the next three weeks. Invite the angels to bring you good news of great joy. It has been a long year of 2020-2021 so far. We need relief. This is my prayer.
