Good afternoon,
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them ? Psalm 8:3-4
Sometimes we give God human characteristics. We say it is the voice of God ( I think I use this term alot ) . I say that God is angry with me when I sin. And I have been known to say that God cries when the world suffers. God is weeping with the people of Ukraine, Syria and Turkey. And at times, I project all my ideas on God because I think that God thinks like me.
We know that it is not true. God is God, and divine, omnipotent, and omnipresent. I assume God can be everywhere at the same time. New quantum theory says that two electrons can be in two places at the same time. And when you measure certain small particles, they move. Sounds wild eh ?! Maybe that is what God is like. God is beyond any equation we can work out.
So in Psalm 8, the writer says God has fingers ( verse three ). How many fingers would God have ? Then, it says God set all things in place. How did God set everything in place in the whole universe ? A snap of his fingers, or personally place the trillions of galaxies.
Finally, it says at the end of verse four that God cares for us . I believe this about God. The book of Psalms is all about love and devotion of the people of God towards God. It is the writer’s attempt to get close to the divine nature of God. I do not think he/she/us will arrive exactly there, but we are always trying.
Grace and peace in our journey towards GodFred
