ISAIAH’S VISION

December 29, 2020

Good afternoon,
” Forget the former things do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”               Isaiah 33:18-19

I assume you have had a difficult period in your life. Maybe it was 2020. I suspect you have other times in your life when things went bad. It might have been your health. It might have been about money, or relationships or about God. Reflect on the tough stuff you had to endure.

Isaiah as a good prophet challenges us to go in a different direction. Forget about 2020. Forget about money problems. Forget about the Virus. God is going to do a new thing. We will be led out of the wilderness into a greater life with God. There is going to be an everflowing stream with crystal clear water for all of us to enjoy.

We do not know what Isaiah wants the Israelites to forget, and to just trust in God. Unless a  “twinkling of an eye” kind of miracle happens, life does not go in that way . Life usually moves slower , and we see the movements of God in hindsight. We struggle with what to do, and say and the way we should act. It is hard to forget the tough stages of life. Isaiah, what do you mean for today ?

Prayer

20/20 is perfect sight lines.

2020 has not been so insightful

for our life, or maybe even for our faith.2021

will be different for us ,

O God.

Each year is not the same

We learn

We teach

We worship.

We do acts of kindness.

We look to youfor ways to be faithful

to our call

to our baptism.

Help us Lord in 2021. We need you.

AMEN
