Good evening,” In the beginning… ” Genesis 1
In January 2020, I was contemplating being the full time pastor here at Poole. I was working part time at MCC and at Poole, and was the township councillor in Woolwich. I was busy, and I knew something would have to change. The World Health Organization was watching this new virus, and the United States had its first official case. China had locked down the city of Wuhan. I was not worried.
We had been hosting an exchange visitor from Brazil through MCC. He had gone to their mid-year retreat in Virginia in February for a week. Then Jhonas and a few others went to New York City for a few days. Jhonas came back sick. He has a cough and flu-like symptoms. Then two weeks later we are ordered into a lockdown. We wonder if he had COVID. My MCC supervisor tries to get a hold of me all weekend ( March 8 ) to tell me to stay home. I thought it would be over in a month. I never returned to the offices at MCC. I started full-time at Poole on April 1, 2020 ( no fooling )
What do you remember from those months in early 2020 ? What have you missed since then ? Have we gained anything ? Books have already been written. Writers are saying what they have learned from the pandemic. It is not yet over, so I wish they would wait till 2022 !
Prayer/poem
How sweet my life now in its descent into the valley
the valley itself not mist-covered
but fertile and tranquil.so for the first time
I find myself
able to look ahead,
able to look at the world,
and even move toward it. Louise Gluck from Descent to the Valley
