Good afternoon,
” Jesus said to them, ‘ Bring some of the fish you have just caught’ … Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead. “John 21:10-14
Jesus as a breakfast cook ! A little bit of fish, and some nice mult-grain bread, and maybe a few eggs as well. Maybe an omelet ? Did all the disciples who were fishing come and sit down by the fire and eat ? They were not quite sure who he was. They listened to his words about throwing the nets over to the other side of the boat. ” It has to be Jesus, but it does not quite look like him.”
This passage and other resurrection stories cause a problem for me. I do not know about you, but why is the Kingdom of God not set up yet ? Jesus dies. He is resurrected. Salvation is instituted. The devil and death are defeated. And yet… Jesus has to cook breakfast. And the new kingdom is not set in place.
Jesus has to go back to heaven ( he has just been in hell for three days between Good Friday and Easter Sunday ). Why does he have to go back, and we have to live in the reality that the Kingdom is not yet here ? I do not understand the delay. Do you have any ideas ?
Well, we just have to just keep making breakfast. We need to offer people a community around meals. Potlucks are just a small glimpse of the Kingdom. It will be a resurrection when we can have a potluck again. Who is going to be the first to make these deviled eggs( Why not call them angelic eggs )? I am going to have sugar free jello with bananas in it. My favourite !!!
Grace and peace to you all.
