Good afternoon, ” For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. ” Romans 8:28 Our book study is looking at the Bible. Last evening I asked the group what their favourite books were. Isaiah, Romans, Luke, Habbakuk, Philippians, Psalms and Job were some of the ones people appreciated the most. I also asked what books they would throw out. We talked about some books that are hard to understand and that we did not like so much. We are not allowed to throw out any, so I will leave it at that.
What are your favourite verses from God’s Word ? Maybe in January I can have a set of sermons on favourite verses. What are the verses that we return to when we are doing well, and when we are suffering ? Psalms speak to most emotions that we experience in our lives. They are a good resource at any time in our lives . The Gospels are about the earthly life of Jesus. Paul’s letters are about the early life of the church.
What do you think are the major themes throughout the Bible ? The different books speak about a variety of themes. Do you think there is a straight line from Genesis to Revelation ? Possible themes are salvation, love, covenant and kingdom. The book we are studying is What is the Bible ? by Dennis Edwards. He writes that the Bible is a love story more than a rule book . Do you disagree or agree ?
One of my favourite verses is from Habbakuk 3:17, “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.“
Love, Joy and Peace.
