March 9, 2021 Good afternoon, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10Mr. Brunton was our principal at Parliament Oak School in Niagara-on-the-Lake. He was bigger than life. At Remembrance Day he showed us movies of WWII because he served there. He marched the school downtown to the cenotaph services every November 11. He struck in me the fear of the Lord. I would never have wanted to be called into his office. Behind Mr. Brunton’s back we would call him Cecil because that was his first name. We thought we were cool.
His wife was Mrs. Brunton. She was the kindergarten teacher and was much loved. She loved all of her students. She was not my teacher. The love of the Lord/world came from her.
Then one ( I think I was in grade 7 ) Remembrance Day , when he was showing his yearly movies of the Great War, I saw him in the back crying. That struck the fear of the Lord in me. He had emotions just like the rest of us. He was human. I did not look at Mr Brunton in the same way. The fear of the Lord includes respect and understanding. Thank you Mr. Brunton.
The fear of the Lord is really the love that God wants to show. It is shown mostly in the humanity and love we find in Jesus. Prayer We do not fear you God, We respect We honour We love We care. That is all contained in the fear of the Lord , Thank you God. AMEN
