|February 24, 2021Good afternoon,|
To be a Christian is to sit, however uncomfortably, in mystery, in something that we can never quite nail down or name. After all, we’re talking about God here, the maker of the crab nebula and black holes and protons and puffins.
This passage is from April Yamasaki. At least she wrote it or quoted it on her Facebook page. She is a former pastor and a seasoned writer. She used to edit the Purpose magazine. She has written about five books, and has spoken at many conferences. So she is a good writer and person. What does it mean to say that a person is ” seasoned ? ” Salt and pepper, cumin, curry paste, jalapeno spice blend, or just brown butter. What kind of spice do you need in a writer ?
I love Yamasaki’s move to mystery here. I know nothing, I have faith. I am unsure of everything in this world, but I have faith in God. I know new things come along, but I am in the race, and I have kept the faith. ( Paul’s words ).
If I would give you three short devotionals of the same length, you probably could pick mine out because of the words I use, and the length of sentences and the nature content of my writing. So, maybe there are some things you can rely on in this world ( or least my small world ).
Thank you Lord God,
for words for ideas
for sentences and
for You. AMEN.
