question everything

July 6, 2022
Good afternoon,

Jesus asks 307 questions in the New Testament. He is asked 183 questions and he answers only three questions. I did not research these numbers,  but I assume they are close to correct. There is an assumption by Jesus, I think, to work out our own faith. Jesus keeps his enemies and his friends on edge. He wants them to think about his role, and their belief in him.

In the original language of the New Testament, Greek, there is no punctuation. So, in our English translations of  the Bible, the translators make decisions on where to put question marks and exclamation points. The endings of every Greek word is important as to tell you what the meaning may be in the context of the sentences. Translators are a great gift to the church.

” Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?“You have said so,” Jesus replied. When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer.  Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?”  But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.”  Matthew 27:11-14

What question by Jesus do you want answered today ? What do you think of Jesus’ response to Pilate here in the above text. He doesn’t defend himself. He takes the verbal abuse by the soldiers, religious leaders and political appointees. What do we learn about how to live out our faith by the non-response of Jesus our Lord ?

Grace and peace to our walk of faith.
