SERMONS ON ADVOCACY
SEPTEMBER 12 INDIGENOUS CONVERSATIONS SEPTEMBER 19 GUARANTEED BASIC INCOME SEPTEMBER 26 PALESTINE/ISRAEL OCTOBER 3 TECHNOLOGY AND ROBOTS
Advocacy means to speak to the government or other agencies about things that can be changed in our society for the better. Advocacy usually works better if a group works on it together. Mennonite Central Committee or Mennonite Church Canada often speak on behalf of churches here in Canada. For example, they both spoke to Parliament for conscientious objector status during World War II. Advocacy gets into politics. I believe the church has the opportunity and obligation to speak out of our faith tradition to government policy and activity. Whenever Jesus used the term “ Lord “ for himself, he was saying to Pilate, Herod and other leaders in the Empire, you are not in charge. It was a dangerous thing for Jesus to say.
Please give feedback to me or the worship committee after you are part of these worship services and sermons. We will have different perspectives on policy and activity in this world. We can and must learn from each other.
Shalom and strength, Fred Redekop
