As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.Matthew 4:18-20
From July 24, 2020 to July 23, 2021, I walked at least 3,901,124 steps or 2730 kilometers. This is according to the pedometer on my phone. It is from here to just over the Saskatchewan border. The most steps I walked in one day was just over 21,000. Most often I walk in the morning between 6 and 8 o’clock.
Each step is important. I try to pray when I walk. I take many pictures of creation. Sometimes I sing quietly to myself. I try to think about my day coming up, and invite God to lead me into each step.
But sometimes I forget. My mind is racing too much, and God seems nowhere. God is in each of my steps, but I might not be in touch with God in each of my steps. God does not forget me but I forget God. How many of those 3 million steps did I find God ?
” Come and follow me… “, Jesus says to his disciples and to me. For his friends the following did not come easy. They ran away when the cross got too close. When death arrived, they were scared. I am like those disciples, broken and fearful, but I will continue to live life with one step and another step …
Our paths can be scary,
Our roads can be rough and rocky,
Our streets are not paved with gold,
Narrow is the way,
but wide are the arms of God,
As we live each daystep, by step.
Soaring like Vultures
lifted up by unseen Hands
