The Prayer Book of Faith

August 26, 2020,
Good afternoon,
” Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but, whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers. Not so the wicked!
    They are like chaff
       that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous.  But the way of the wicked leads to destruction.”               Psalm 1:1-6

We were going to have a Bible study ( CANCELLED ) outside at the church in about an hour. We will be looking at the first Psalm. The Psalter is the book of wisdom and prayer. The first Psalm here speaks to both of these things that we need in our life. The book has been the devotional book for both Jews and Chrstians for a few thousand years. It was originally written in Hebrew, translated to Latin ( for the Empire ) and then into Greek ( for the cultural Empire ) .  In 1611 the King James Version was printed in honour of the King ( another Empire ) . For most of us, the Psalms are remembered through the KJV. It is beautiful English, and was the work of many translators. We are hearing it through the eyes of three different languages.

Do you have a favourite chapter  from the book ? Our Bible study, happening every Wednesday, will study a new Psalm every time. Come and hear the old words again, for the first time.
Strength and peace for the journey together through the pandemic.
