December 30, 2020 Good afternoon, ” Time is what prevents everything from happening at once.” from John Archibald Wheeler, American physicist . — given to me by Richard Kaufmann The way we measure time is helpful to us to see the past, present and future. 2021 is an arbitrary number. The Jewish calendar is at 5781. The Thai Buddhist calendar is at 2558. Different societies began to tell time at different years. Our months are also helpful for us to gain perspective, but they are not set in stone. We could have figured out a different way to tell time. God is timeless. But we are human, and are bound by time. Will time ever end ? We are wrapped up in dates of our lives, and so what does it mean to live in heaven for eternity. I cannot really grasp it. Will time end then, or will it still be measured by God ? In the letter to the church at Ephesus, the writer says, ” … unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages , time without end. Amen. ” Ephesians 3:21 ( King James Version ) So, what will we do when the time passes to a new year. For God it is not a new year, but for us it is an opportunity to look back, watch the present and look to the future. Prayer Oh God you are timeless. Yet, you engage us with time and compassion. And are bound with us, through the life and time of Jesus, the Christ. Your Spirit guides our actions and thoughts, through every second, hour, day, week, month and year. Time continues for us, for yet another year, 2021. AMEN. Fred |
